WHEN SHOULD I CONSIDER FAMILY OR DIVORCE COUNSELLING?

One or both members of the couple should consider counselling as soon as the following situations have occurred and before a breakdown in the couple or family can cause irreparable harm to anyone involved (especially children): persistent communication breakdown, recurring conflicts, emotional disconnection, or crisis challenges like infidelity, differing parenting styles, or major life changes. It is particularly pertinent when considering separation or divorce to have a supportive space to explore options, understand underlying issues, and make informed decisions about the future. In each scenario, seeking counselling provides an opportunity to navigate complexities, rebuild the relationship, and prioritise wellbeing with the guidance of a qualified professional tailored to your unique circumstances and needs.

WHAT DO I NEED TO CONSIDER WHEN CHILDREN ARE INVOLVED?

When children are involved in family or divorce counseling, prioritize their well-being by acknowledging and addressing their emotional needs, fostering open communication, and maintaining consistency in routines to provide stability amidst change. Emphasize cooperative co-parenting to ensure a supportive environment for children, making decisions with their best interests in mind while seeking guidance on navigating legal and emotional complexities. Encourage children to express their feelings and maintain connections with supportive individuals outside of counseling sessions, and remember to prioritize your own self-care as a parent to better support your children through challenging times.

CAN I INVOLVE MY CHILD IN COUNSELLING WITHOUT PERMISSION
FROM THE OTHER PARENT?

In most cases, it's generally not advisable for one parent to involve a child in family counseling without the other parent's permission, especially if both parents share custody or have joint decision-making authority regarding the child's welfare.

WHAT TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES DO YOU USE?

Active listening and empathy, enriched by my own experience, form the cornerstone of my counseling approach. As a survivor of domestic abuse, I understand the profound importance of being truly heard and understood. Drawing from my journey, I engage in active listening, offering my full presence and attention to clients' experiences, emotions, and concerns. Through empathetic understanding, I strive to create a safe and validating space where clients feel seen, valued, and supported. My own experiences have deepened my capacity for empathy, allowing me to connect with clients on a deeper level and provide genuine support as they navigate their own challenges and seek healing and empowerment.

TO WHOM CAN YOU DISCLOSE INFORMATION SHARED
DURING COUNSELLING SESSIONS?

Information shared by clients with their counsellor is private and confidential and cannot be disclosed to anyone, including their partner or children, without express consent by the client. As a counselor, confidentiality is paramount, and information shared by clients is typically kept confidential unless there are legal or ethical reasons for disclosure. Exceptions may include situations involving imminent harm to the client or others, child or elder abuse, or when required by law or court order.

ARE SESSIONS IN PERSON OR ONLINE (VIDEO)?

Research has shown that online video sessions can be just as effective as face-to-face counselling in providing support and facilitating therapeutic progress. Through the use of video conferencing technology, clients can engage in meaningful and impactful counselling sessions from the comfort of their own environment. The convenience of online video sessions allows for greater accessibility, eliminating geographical barriers and accommodating busy schedules. Moreover, the therapeutic alliance and rapport can still be cultivated effectively, as therapists utilize active listening, empathy, and evidence-based techniques to support clients in their journey towards healing and personal growth. Whether conducted face-to-face or via online video, the focus remains on providing high-quality, compassionate care tailored to the unique needs and goals of each individual client.

In certain circumstances and when available, I am pleased to offer face-to-face counseling sessions, providing a comforting and personalized environment for clients who prefer in-person interactions. While virtual sessions offer convenience and accessibility, I understand that there are times when meeting face-to-face may be preferred or necessary. Whether you're navigating individual challenges, relationship issues, or family dynamics, I am committed to accommodating your preferences and needs. With flexible scheduling options, I strive to ensure that you receive the tailored support and care you deserve in a format that best suits your circumstances. Please note that I can only accommodate in-person sessions at my practice in Central and Northwest London.

HOW QUICKLY CAN YOU GET BACK TO ME?

I always strive to do my best in maintaining open lines of communication with my clients, ensuring that their needs are met promptly, especially within the crucial 24-hour timeframe, so they feel supported throughout their therapeutic journey.
